OUR HISTORY
The legacy of Walker’s Funeral Home began in 1922 when Houston J. Walker and one of his sons, Mr. Allen H. Walker, Sr. converted a local country store into Walker’s first funeral home. It was originally located across from the Courthouse on South Churton St. in Hillsborough, NC, complete with a horse drawn funeral coach. It was later moved to its present location in downtown Hillsborough at 204 North Churton St.
The Walker family has built their business for over a hundred years on the principle of “Our Family Serving Your Family” and it continues to be our legacy today.
To serve our families in Chapel Hill and the surrounding area, in 1937 the Walker family added a new location in downtown Chapel Hill at 120 West Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC. This location was originally managed by one of Houston Walker’s sons, Mr. Joe Walker.
To better serve our ever-changing community in Chapel Hill, in 2024 the Walker's family built a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility south of Chapel Hill at 11680 Hwy 15-501 N., Chapel Hill, NC. The facility is fully equipped and designed to assist families better in their time of need by providing any type of service requested.
To serve Mebane and Alamance County, in 1946 the Walker family built a new funeral home in downtown Mebane at 304 W. Center St. This location was originally managed by Houston Walker’s son, Mr. Marvin Walker. In 2017, to better serve the changing needs of our growing community, the original location was torn down and replaced with a new, more modern facility and a crematory.
All three locations are operating today by Elizabeth P. Walker, wife of Houston Walker’s grandson, Allen H. Walker, Jr. Mrs. Walker and her dedicated and professional staff continue the 100-year-old legacy and tradition that has made Walker’s Funeral Home the premier funeral home in Orange, Alamance and Chatham Counties.
