William Albert Davis Jr. 78 of Greenville, North Carolina passed away on July 18, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on September 21, 1947 to William A. Davis Sr. and Grace Marie Ellis Davis. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, William Michael Davis.

He is survived by his wife (Michelle Squires Davis) that loved him dearly for more than 43 years (that is what he called their Richard Petty years). Sons: William Albert Davis III (Debbie) of McLeansville, NC; Kenneth Wayne Davis (Lindsay) of Greenville, NC; Daughters: Wanda Kaye Johnson (Robert) of Oxford, NC and Paula Fay Martin of Jacksonville, NC. Bonus son Robbie Griggs (Heidi) of Greenville, NC; Sister: Pat Godfrey (Lee) of Pittsboro NC.

Grandchildren: Brandon Coffey, Adam Martin, Candice Long, Bethany Kapuscinski (Dustin), William (Will) Albert Davis IV, William Michael Davis Jr., Abbagail Whichard, Jordan Davis, Kenzie Davis, Ryleigh Griggs and Ava Griggs.

His Great Joys – Great Grandsons: Ayden Martin, Davis Kapuscinski, Jameson Long, and Easton Davis.

Best of friends: Tom Walker, Jamie Mason and David Ellington.

Big Al, as he was known by so many, spent his life serving others beginning as a police officer. Always answering the call when his community needed him. He found joy in racing cars; proving by working hard you should make time for whatever you love. What people will remember most are the countless miles he drove across North Carolina delivering products whether it was Pepsi, Wonder Bread, Merita Bread, Little Debbie, Carolina Country Sancks or Wise Foods. He was always on the road before most people were awake making sure the shelves were stocked and customers were satisfied. He never looked for the easy path…. If there were a job to do; he did it and did it HIS WAY!

He believed in showing up, working hard and providing for the people he loved. He taught us that your word mattered, that quitting was no option and that pride came from earning an honest days pay. His work is done now but his example will continue to guide us for the rest of our lives.

He believed in making memories including spending time with family and friends - enjoying every chance he had to do the things he loved: on the softball field, in the bowling alley or out on the golf course. He was always ready for a little friendly competition. He was an avid fan of UNC Tarheels, Atlanta Braves, Nascar Racing and WWE professional Wrestling. He enjoyed fishing and spending hours on the beach getting that golden tan.

Above all else; he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, family man, neighbor and friend. His happiest moments were spend with his family on their two treasured annual vacations: One week at the Beach and One week in the NC Mountains. Those trips became beloved traditions filled with laughter, relaxation, time together creating memories in the hearts of those who share them.

He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his kind heart, his quiet strength and the simple joys that brought him happiness. Though he will be deeply missed; the love he gave will remain with his family forever. 

The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Walkers Funeral Home Chapel in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends starting at 11:30am until service time at 1:00pm. Burial will take place at the Davis Family Cemetery.
