Terrence "Terry" James Flynn

Dec 20, 1949 — Jun 26, 2026

Chapel Hill

It is with great sadness that the Flynn Family announces the passing of Terrence James Flynn on June 26th, 2026, after a three-year battle with cancer.

Terry was born on December 20th, 1949, in Woodside, Queens, New York to Gloria Pospisil Flynn and James Terrence Flynn.

A proud veteran, Terry honorably served in the Army-Military Police in Vietnam. His service to the country reflected his dedication, courage, and patriotism that he demonstrated throughout life.

Following military service, Terry worked as a brokerage firm mail clerk on Wall Street and climbed the brokerage operation industry at firms and banks in New York City, Cleveland, and Minneapolis, concluding his career as a managing director and CEO of Ameriprise’s Clearing Company. Upon retirement Terry relocated from Maple Grove, MN to Chapel Hill, NC to enjoy warmer weather and golf. He relished the southern lifestyle, country club friends, putzing in the yard, playing solitaire on the computer, and watching Family Feud and Funniest Videos with his family. He was most happy in his role as Dad and Grandpa!

Terry is survived by his wife of 29 years, Michele Brouillard Flynn, of Chapel Hill, children – Dennis Flynn (Jennifer) of Putnam Valley, NY, Marc Flynn (Michelle) of Wesley Chapel, FL, Kenneth Flynn of California, Michael Flynn of Chapel Hill, and Megan Flynn of Charlotte. Grandchildren Connor, Parker, Makenzie, and Melanie Flynn, siblings Mary Finnegan and Brian Flynn of New York. Terry was preceded in death by his mother Gloria Pospisil Flynn, father, James Terrence Flynn, sisters Janice Flynn Casey and Elizabeth Flynn Gumiela, and brother Lawrence “Mickey” Flynn.

Those who knew Terry will remember him for his humor, quick wit, loyalty, and financial talents. We will treasure Terry’s legacy of love, service, integrity, and generosity and miss him terribly.

Terry and the Flynn Family are immensely grateful to Terry’s medical team at UNC Health Care Cancer Hospital and the caring and supportive staff at UNC Hospice.

The family appreciates the thoughts and prayers of friends and loved ones during this challenging time. Those interested in honoring Terry’s life with a memorial, are encouraged to donate to UNC Cancer Hospital or UNC Hospice.
