Susan Hill Oliver

December 17, 1946 — December 11, 2025

It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Hill Oliver, who left us peacefully December 11. Born on December 17, 1946 in Monroe, North Carolina, Susan lived a life marked by compassion, curiosity and a steadfast devotion to those she loved. She spent many cherished years in Fayetteville and in Chapel Hill, where she touched countless lives with her guidance, warmth, and generosity.

Susan was blessed with a natural gift for language and a deep passion for learning. She devoted much of her life to teaching English, becoming a beloved and influential educator to generations of students. Her classroom was a place of discovery, encouragement, and inspiration where she fostered creativity, celebrated individuality, and instilled a lifelong love of English Literature.

She is lovingly survived by her two children, John and Jaime, and her daughter-in-law, Cynthia, who will forever carry her in their hearts. She also leaves behind her cherished brother, Edward, with whom she shared a lifetime of laughter.

Susan's legacy lives on with her family, friends, former students, and the many people whose lives were brightened simply by knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the UNC Cancer Hospital in Susan's memory, so that her spirit of care and compassion may continue to support others.
