Rubie Caroline Riggan Hecht

Mrs. Rubie Caroline Riggan Hecht, 93, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Mebane Ridge Assisted Living.

Mrs. Hecht’s funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, at Grace Lutheran Church, 824 N. Buchanan Blvd., in Durham, NC. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, 114 Poplar Mount Road, Ridgeway, NC.

Rubie Was born on June 16, 1933, the daughter of the late Willie Raymond Riggan and Ruby Caroline Harris Riggan. On July 19, 1952, she married Herman Albert George Hecht who preceded her in death. Rubie’s joy throughout life was spending time with her family and loved ones, maintaining her house and gardens, and helping those in need. She enjoyed attending Grace Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Group leader, and organized the church library. She also enjoyed square dance with the Golden Dippers in Durham and line dancing at the Seymour Center in Hillsborough, and sewing and needlepoint. She and her husband Herman traveled extensively through the United States, Europe, Australia, and South America. She received an Associate’s Degree from Louisburg College. Thereafter, Rubie worked part-time at Piedmont Package, Hillsborough; the Orange Tax Office; and Grace Lutheran Church in Durham.

Surviving are sons Raymond Carl Hecht and David Durand Hecht (Lynn); daughter Deborah Elaine Hecht (Jose Olmos); grandchildren Jennifer Campbell, Jaime Massey, Ashley Torain, Ryan Hecht, and Melissa Hecht; eight grandchildren and I great-great grandson.

The family will greet friends Tuesday evening, October 20, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough.
