A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ronald earned his Bachelor's Degree, which laid the foundation for a fulfilling life both personally and professionally. His love for education and knowledge was evident in his status as an avid reader and book collector.
Ronald's military service in the United States Navy was a defining chapter in his life. He proudly served as a Radioman on several ships, including the USS Lake Champlain and the USS Lake Tallahatchie County (AVB-2), one of only two ships configured as an Advanced Aviation Base Ship. He played a significant role during pivotal moments in history, including his presence onboard during the Cuban Missile Crisis. A highlight of his remarkable service was the honor of picking up Astronaut Alan Shepard following his historic Mercury Redstone 3 Flight on May 5, 1961. Ronald held his service record in high esteem, cherishing the experiences and camaraderie that came with serving his country around various ports and countries.
However, Ronald's greatest pride resided in his role as a devoted husband and father. He built a loving life with his wife, Margaret Scarborough, and raised three children: Ryan, Patrick, and Martha Sue. Ronald's legacy is carried on through his immediate family, who knew him as a gentle, supportive, and inspiring figure.
