Ronald “Ron” Eugene Bourn, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2025. Born on September 14, 1944, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Throughout his childhood, Ron’s father’s career led his family on adventures living in various places including California, Minnesota, and Germany. After many years on the move, they settled down in Saunderstown, Rhode Island where he would attend high school and graduate from the University of Rhode Island. After graduation, Ron spent two years in the Army, stationed in Germany and Spain, and achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.
After completing his service, Ron worked as a computer programmer at Pratt and Whitney, where he met his wife, Barbara. He then earned his MBA from Barney School of Business. They decided to settle down in Glastonbury, Connecticut where they could start a family near their family and friends. There he spent 28 years working at Cigna Healthcare as an IT Director. While raising their two boys, Ron loved spending time traveling to Cape Cod for their summer vacations, playing family doubles on the tennis court he built in their backyard, coaching many seasons of youth soccer teams, and supporting the boys in all their sporting endeavors.
Upon his retirement, Ron and Barbara moved to Seabrook Island, SC, where they made lifelong friendships and enjoyed spending time near the beach. He could often be found on the crab dock, riding his bike, or reading a good spy novel. In 2012, they moved to North Carolina, where Ron loved spending time with friends on the golf course and working out in the gym. He spent several years serving on the Governor’s Club POA Board of Directors as well as POA President. One of his most cherished activities was watching his grandchildren play sports. After spending many years watching his own sons on various sport courts and fields, he loved reliving those memories with his grandchildren. Throughout his travels as a child and adult, no home was complete without an elaborate, detailed train room that he built so he could enjoy his father’s vintage model trains with his children and grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara; son Scott and wife Daphne of Chevy Chase, Maryland; son Eric and wife Kristen of Durham, North Carolina; and his three grandchildren, William, Laynie, and Sadie.
He was predeceased by his mother, Eleanor Brown Bourn; father, Gerald Robert Bourn; and his brother, Thomas Gerald Bourn.
A private service will be held at a later date.
