Robert Hudson Wallace, 90, of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away after a brief illness on May 26, 2025 in Durham, NC.
Bob was born in Atlanta, GA on May 27, 1934 to the late Clyde Jackson Wallace and Iva Mae Little Wallace. Bob graduated from Athens High School in Athens, GA, before attending the University of Georgia, where he lettered in UGA baseball and obtained his Bachelor’s degree.
On May 1, 1960, Bob married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Morton. He received his license as an insurance agent in Georgia and established a career in the insurance industry, becoming the Regional Sales Manager in Albany, GA for Grange Insurance Company, based in Columbus, OH. Bob was a member of Kiwanis Club of Albany, GA and a devoted member of First Methodist Church of Albany, GA where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Senior Adult Ministry coordinator, and as a volunteer for the United Methodist Committee on Hurricane Relief.
Bob enjoyed gardening, golf, and rooting for his team, the UGA Bulldogs. His community will remember him for his Neighborhood Puppy Bench Ministry. “Mr. Bob,” as he was known in the Briar Chapel Community, was well known for dispensing dog treats, wisdom, and humorous one-liners from his front porch benches. Canines and humans alike all found their way to him and left refreshed in body and spirit.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Morton Wallace; son, Robert H. Wallace, Jr. (Carrie); daughters, Kerry Wallace Gary (Grant) and Allison Wallace (Kate Meserve); grandchildren Cameron, Shelsey, Gracyn, and Hudson; and great-grandchildren Nova Rae and Grant James.
Services to honor the life of Bob will be announced at a future date. Memorial funds may be made to the Littleton Fund of First Methodist Church in Albany, GA or to contributors’ charity of choice.
