Robert Musson, 57, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, died on April 27, 2026, at Pruitt Carolina Point in Durham after a long illness. He was three days shy of his 58th birthday.
Robert was born April 30, 1968, in Sylacauga, Alabama — “The Marble City” — the son of Sara (Wells) Musson and Alfred Musson. Life took him through North Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Texas, and Virginia before he came home to North Carolina for good. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1987 and spent nearly 20 years working for Kroger.
To family and close friends, he was Bob. Anyone who met him remembered him. He was personable and charismatic, with a voice he was never shy about using — he loved to sing, loved music of every kind, and could turn a bingo night into a show as the emcee. A teacher once described him as “the most exasperating and delightful child rolled into one,” a line that stuck because it was true his whole life. He had a way of pulling people in and making the ordinary feel like something worth showing up for.
Robert is survived by his parents, Sara and Alfred Musson; his brother, Scott Musson, and sister-in-law, Ashley Musson; and his nieces and nephews, Joshua Musson, Rachel Musson, Rebeccah Musson, and Kai Bishop — all of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His Catholic faith was a constant, and so was his love of company, music, and a room full of people.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Chapel Hill. His ashes will be interred at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Terra Bella Hillsborough and Pruitt Carolina Point for the care and kindness they showed Robert in his final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Robert’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
