Robert Daniel Crews

May 29, 1940 — May 25, 2026

Durham

Robert “Bob” Daniel Crews, 85, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. He was born in Granville County, North Carolina, on May 29, 1940, to the late Daniel M. Crews and Katheryn Crews.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before dedicating many years of service to the City of Durham as a water plant operator. Having lived in Durham for more than 60 years, Bob built a life centered on family, friendship, and the outdoors. He had a deep love for hunting, fishing, and spending time outside. Bob found peace and joy in nature and cherished the simple pleasures of outdoor life. He especially loved sitting on the deck, smoking his pipe, and listening to old-time traditional country music.

Bob was known for ending many of his sentences with “Oh Me,” a phrase so closely associated with him that some friends affectionately nicknamed him “Oh Me.”

Bob never met a stranger and loved people deeply. During the summer months, he looked forward to seeing his mail carrier, Angela, and would often greet her with a cold bottle of water. Angela cherished those visits and was heartbroken to hear of Bob’s passing.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Crews.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Kathy Holland (Ken); stepchildren Vanessa Demetriades (Gus), Teressa Gramer (Glenn), Larry Vaughn, and Gene Vaughn (Joan); along with many grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Southern Comfort Home Care, especially Tiffany, Brandy, Vernita, John, and Mikela, for the loving care and support they provided.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon, at Walker’s Funeral Home, 11680 US Hwy 501 North, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Burial will follow immediately afterward at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery on Legion Road in Chapel Hill.

Bob will be remembered for his quiet spirit, kind heart, devotion to family, and love of the outdoors. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
