Rickey Bailey, 69 of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on June 19, 2025. Born on May 5, 1956 in Seattle, Washington, Rickey lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his community, and the young athletes he mentored throughout the years.
Rickey was a devoted husband to Wanda Bailey and a loving father to his daughter Amy Bailey Kennedy and her husband Jeff Kennedy and to his son Jamie Bailey. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Jacie Kennedy, Colin Kennedy, and Peyton Bailey. His time with them was among his greatest joys.
He is also remembered by his stepmother Geraldine Bailey; his sister Donna Murphy; and his stepsister Shirley Graham and her husband Buster Graham. Rickey was preceded in death by his father William G Bailey and mother Bessie Wilson.
A passionate coach and mentor, Rickey dedicated many years to coaching football, girls basketball and softball at Orange Middle School. His commitment to youth sports left a lasting impact on countless students who benefited from his guidance both on and off the field.
Outside of coaching, Rickey found peace and fulfillment in working in his yard and tending to his garden. He cherished quiet moments outdoors as much as he did the lively energy of game days or time spent with family.
Rickey's legacy lives on through the lives he touched as a coach, a friend, a family man and through the memories shared by those who knew him best.
May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 28 2025, at 11:00 AM at Orange Middle School 308 Orange High School Road.
