Nancy Jean Worthen, 74, of Morrisville, NC, died on October 15, 2025, after a long illness. She is survived by her brother John (Julia), and was preceded in death by her father Carl, mother Lucille, and brother Paul.
Nancy lived most of her life in the Libertyville, IL area, moving to North Carolina in 2017. She graduated from Libertyville High School and attended the University of Kentucky and the College of Lake County. During her long career in food industry marketing, she often attended conferences to stay in the know on the latest culinary trends, many of which she incorporated when cooking for family. A world traveler, Nancy amassed a remarkable collection of mementoes, some beautiful, some quirky, all reflecting her originality, artistic flair, and many interests.
Nancy brought her own special brand of whimsy and fun to every family gathering and stood ready to make recommendations to anyone looking to watch a campy horror movie. An avid knitter who loved brilliant colors, she crocheted imaginative “critters” that delighted the children within her family and doubtless those who received them as comfort toys distributed by local fire departments. A devoted sister, aunt, grand-aunt, and cousin, Nancy shone as a caring daughter, who adored her parents and was a stalwart support to them in their later years.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held later this fall. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association and The American Cancer Association. Online condolences may be made at walkersfuneralservice.com.
