Nancy Ellen Mancini

Nancy Ellen Mancini, a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, passed away on August 26, 2026. Born on August 27, 1952, to Muriel Underwood and Roy Underwood, Nancy lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved.

Nancy was a caring and truly selfless person who was always thinking of others and putting their needs before her own. She had a gentle and giving heart, and those fortunate enough to know her will remember the love and kindness she brought into their lives.

Above all else, Nancy loved her family. She was a loving mother to her children, Kevin Mancini, Matthew Mancini, and Erin Mancini, and a proud and devoted grandmother to Joshua Mancini, Nicholas Mancini, Alex Mancini, Jayden Mancini, Brody Alger, Riley Alger, and Jayden Alger. Her children and grandchildren were an enormous source of joy in her life, and the love she gave them will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

Nancy is also survived by her spouse, Thomas Burke.

Throughout her career, Nancy worked as an administrative assistant at Assumption College and later served as an administrative assistant for UNC Medical. Her caring nature, dedication, and willingness to help others were qualities she carried with her throughout her professional life.

Nancy also had a deep love for animals. She volunteered with Friends of the Shelter, where she helped shelter dogs find loving homes. She would take the dogs to local malls and help host adoption fairs, giving them the opportunity to meet families and find their forever homes. Her compassion extended to every animal in her care, and she was dedicated to making a difference in their lives.

Her beloved dogs, Daisy and Buddy Buddy, held a special place in her heart and brought her tremendous companionship and happiness.

Nancy found great happiness in gardening and took special pride in her flowers and shrubs. She loved watching them grow and caring for them, and her gardens reflected the patience and nurturing spirit she brought to so many parts of her life.

Nancy will be remembered for far more than the things she did. She will be remembered for the way she made people feel—the kindness she showed, the sacrifices she made, and the unconditional love she gave to her family, animals, and everyone around her. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose presence helped shape the lives of those closest to her.

Her family will carry her love, her memories, and the lessons she taught them throughout their lives. Though she will be deeply missed, the love Nancy gave so freely will continue through her children, grandchildren, family, and everyone whose life she touched.

A memorial service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Beginnings Community Church, 2429 Efland-Cedar Grove Road, Efland, NC 27243.
