Nancy Blocksidge Williams

Nancy Blocksidge Williams, age 95, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was welcomed by the Lord to rejoin all her family and friends in Heaven on October 19, 2026, after a brief two-day stay in the care of the UNC Healthcare Team.

Born on December 29, 1929, in Roanoke, Virginia, as the youngest of three children of Frank and Pearl Blocksidge of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, who must have been visiting relatives in Southwest Virginia for Christmas. Nancy lived a life of trying to get to know you. At one point, she gained the title of the unofficial ambassador of Chapel Hill. Nancy, when out and about, was always ready to unload a litany of questions about your family, friends, schools you attended, schools you root for, places you have been and places you are going. As soon as she got enough information from you, she was always proud to announce that she was a Chapel Hill native and a Blocksidge who married Bert Williams from Carrboro. Nancy grew up on McCauley Street, attending Grade School, High School, the Chapel of the Holy Cross, and visiting her Dad at his business, all on Franklin Street. After attending Women’s College in Greensboro, she was able to transfer to Carolina, where she graduated in 1953 and remained a lifetime alumni member. She loved Chapel Hill and the people in it, as well as everyone she met who had been in or through Chapel Hill. As a former 4-letter high school basketball player, she was quick to tell folks how she greeted the 1957 UNC basketball championship team at the airport as well as attended the 1982 UNC basketball championship in the Superdome. After retiring from UNC Health as a clinical supervisor for the “South Wing” unit of the hospital, she started taking Golf lessons and attending almost every senior group and alumni group she could find. Nancy was a dedicated caregiver to her Mom, Dad, sister, and brother as they predeceased her. She loved her family dearly but subsequently was able to regain purpose in her neighbors, newfound group members, and friends. In 2012, she gained an additional title of Nana as she was able to welcome the first of her three granddaughters.

Nancy is survived by her son Blair (Cara) and her three rambunctious granddaughters, Savannah, Ava, and Merritt. She was preceded in death by her husband Bert, her parents, and her sister Dot and brother Bloss. She was surrounded in life by her wonderful neighbors, her daughter-in-law and her family, and her niece, Carol, all of whom provided the opportunity for her to live life independently in her house until the Lord called her home.

A celebration of life will begin on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, with a graveside service at 11 A.M. at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery (in between Legion Rd and 15-501 N). Funeral services will follow at 12:30 PM at the Church of Holy Family, with a reception at the Church to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Church of Holy Family in Nancy’s memory.
