Mildred Weaver

Mildred "Mickie" Wright Weaver, 92, of Carrboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on August 8, 2026. Mickie was born on August 13, 1933, to James "Jim" Wright and Jessie "Jack" Ray Wright.

 She was a proud graduate of Chapel Hill High School and a lifelong resident of the Carrboro community. She was married to Starnes Weaver, who preceded her in death in 2013. Mickie devoted much of her career to the University of North Carolina, where she built a long and dedicated association with the School of Public Health. She served as a secretary at the School of Public Health, as a receptionist and office administrator at Memorial Hospital's Student Infirmary, and later as Executive Office Administrator for the Dean of the School of Public Health.

 A woman of deep faith, Mickie was a member of both Carrboro Baptist Church and Carrboro Methodist Church. She found great joy in playing piano during church-related visits to nursing homes, sharing her gift of music with those around her. She also cherished trips to the beach with her sister, Bennie. 

Mickie is survived by her sons, David Weaver (wife Cynthia Zeman) of Swampscott, Massachusetts, Karl Weaver of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kevin Weaver (wife Alicia Kelley) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; her twin grandchildren, Tiberius Lucian Weaver-Zeman of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Claire Artemisia Weaver-Zeman of Brooklyn, New York; her step grandson, Shane Kelley (wife Shaynia Streeter); and her step-great-grandchildren, Bentley Streeter, Ava Kelley, and Emmie Kelley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Jack Wright, and her six siblings, Fred, James, Dwight, Charles, and Dewey Wright, and Bennie Gates. 

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mickie's devoted 24/7 caregivers, Terri Haggins and Annie Bullard, for their loving care. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 14, 2026, at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro, followed by a Celebration of Life at Mildred's home, 613 Hillsborough Road, Carrboro, NC 27510. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Carrboro United Methodist Church.
