Marjorie Shields Young

Marjorie “Margie” Shields Young passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished friendships. Born January 14, 1935, to Richard and Lona Mae Shields, she was the eldest daughter of seven children in a bustling home. From an early age, Margie learned the values of caretaking.

Throughout her long and full life, Margie was known for her strong work ethic and versatile talents. While she held many roles over the years, her final career as a dedicated nanny brought her the greatest happiness. Margie had an extraordinary gift with little children; her warmth, patience, and nurture were boundless. To the families she served, she was far more than a nanny—she became an extended mother, grandmother, and family member.

Margie embraced life with flair and elegance. She took great pride in dressing beautifully, with a signature style characterized by bright, cheerful colors—pink being her absolute favorite. Whether she was out on a favorite shopping outing or sharing heartfelt conversations with dear friends, her lively spirit and warm smile always lit up the room.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Ollis “Frank” and Woody; her sister, Molly; and her sons, George and Steve Young.

Margie is survived by her son, Harold Jr. “Junior”; her brother, John; her sisters, Sandra and Clara Sue; and her devoted daughter-in-law, Annette Wiedner. Her feisty spirit lives on through her extended family, including her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the countless friends and families whose lives she touched so deeply.

A graveside service will be held at Efland United Methodist Church Cemetery (3418 US-70, Efland, NC 27243) on October 29, 2026, at 2 pm, with interment immediately following. In memory of Margie, attendees are encouraged to wear something bright or a splash of pink—her favorite color.
