Our beloved Margaret Miller Nichols passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on December 23rd, 2025 at the age of 92. She lived a long, enriching life full of both joy and hardship. She was born in Hillsborough, NC on July 27th, 1933 to parents Samuel Knox Miller and Carrie Annie Ezzell Miller. She graduated from Hillsborough High School, where she excelled in both academics and basketball. At age 18, she married the love of her life – the late Bobby Nichols. Despite both having come from humble beginnings, they built a highly successful dairy farm from the ground up and became valued and beloved members of their community during the 70 years they were married.
She volunteered in many roles at the Cedar Grove Methodist Church throughout the years and was fondly known for her fabulous sense of style, sharp tongue, and delicious pound cake. She was a social butterfly – lighting up any room that she walked into with a mischievous gleam in her eye and a warm zest for life. She loved to laugh and dote on her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother Jack Miller, her husband, Bobby Nichols, and her cherished son, Sammy Nichols. She is survived by her sister Judy Patterson (Milton), her daughter, Diane Russell (Hardy), and her grandchildren – Jessica, Jennifer, and Jocelyn Nichols (Chris), Seth and Lucy Russell, and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation and ceremony will take place at Cedar Grove Methodist Church (5218 Efland-Cedar Grove Road, Cedar Grove, NC) on Tuesday, December 30th, with visitation at 1:00 PM followed by the ceremony at 2:00 PM.
