Marcia Elizabeth Seume Hanson

Marcia Elizabeth Seume Hanson passed away on May 26, 2025, in Chapel Hill, NC. Marcia was born on January 2, 1946 in Houston, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, Miles O. Arman; her father, Richard H. Seume; her mother, Mary Troutman Seume; her brother, Richard H. Seume, Jr. and her sister, Mary Ann Seume Cate. She is survived by her beloved partner, David E. Bennett of Chapel Hill, NC, her sister, Jennifer Seume Dalch of Richmond, VA, and numerous adoring nieces and one nephew.

Marcia graduated from Douglas Southall Freeman High School in Richmond, VA, and Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. She earned her Master’s Degree and PhD from the University of Minnesota. Her career included three years of classroom teaching in Seattle, WA, seven years of educational administration at St. Mary’s Junior College in Minneapolis, MN, and twenty-three years of experience in the banking industry in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. She had the privilege to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of Firstar Bank Des Moines and AmerUs Bank, also located in Des Moines, IA.

One of Marcia’s treasured gifts was the ability to envision organizational change and to work effectively with others to create that change. She continued to make visionary contributions to communities in which she lived long after retirement.
