Lucy Evans, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, at Lowcountry Hospice House. Lucy was born on October 10, 1946 in Durham, NC and raised in the nearby town of Hillsborough. She was born to Joseph and Rubye Reinhardt and was the youngest of 5 children.
She graduated University of North Carolina in 1970 with a Bachelors in Social Work and had a lifelong career supporting and defending those who needed it most. She was as compassionate as she was fierce in fighting for support for the children and seniors in her communities, retiring as Executive Director of the Dorchester Human Development Board, Summerville, SC.
Lucy was a devoted wife to Thomas Evans for 51 years and loving mother to two children, Thomas Evans Jr and Jennifer Evans Biron. As proud and loving as she was a mother, her greatest delight came from being a grandmother to her three grandchildren, Madeline and Emma Biron and Andrew Evans. The love she had for her family, her siblings, and most abundantly for her grandchildren, was immeasurable. Lucy had many friends and close colleagues over the years who always spoke of her kindness and generosity. She was also an avid lover of music, reading and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rubye, sisters, Betty McClintock and Joan Reinhardt, dear family friend Lora Kernodle, and best friend Julia Brown. She was survived by her husband Thomas, son Tommy (Jennifer), daughter Jennifer (Scott), grandchildren Maddie, Emma and Drew and two siblings, Dr. Mary Roberts and Harvey Reinhardt.
A private burial will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Hillsborough, NC.
