Kerry Dee Ray, I

Kerry Dee Ray, age 79, of Hillsborough, NC, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026. He shared over 50 years of marriage with his late, beloved wife Delores "Sandy" Hicks Ray. Kerry is lovingly remembered by his son Kerry Dee Ray, II, and daughter-in-law Angela, along with his cherished granddaughters, Chloe Johnson and Madison Ray. He leaves behind his brother Gene Ray, and sisters Carol Sykes, Debra Teer, and Rene Gault.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Ray and Alese Dean Ray, his twin brother Jerry Lee Ray, his sister Susan Ray Walker, and son Robert Bowling.

A proud veteran, Kerry served with the Army 82nd Airborne Division. He dedicated 60 years to his career as an ironworker, travelling all over the country to work on numerous high profile projects. He was also an avid farmer, raising cattle, hogs and chickens. He found joy in fishing, good food, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family. He loved the outdoors, his vegetable garden and growing flowers for his wife.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, At Walker's Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsborough. Family and friends are welcome to visit from 11 AM to 1 PM with the service beginning at 1 PM. Due to the extreme heat, a private family graveside service will follow at Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to honor
