Joseph Hughes

CHATHAM Joseph P. Hughes, 75, of Chapel Hill died at home February 5, 2013. He was born July 30, 1937, in Brunswick County, NC, to the late Percy and Elizabeth(Lizzy) Hughes. He is survived by his wife of forty six years, Mary; sister-in-law, Helen Hughes; nieces Brenda Canes, Beverly Hewett, and Beth Long; and numerous friends. Joe graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, served in the US Air Force, and worked for Carolina Telephone Company in eastern North Carolina for over twenty eight years. He is remembered as a quiet, gentle man who loved music, sports, and researching family history. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 10 AM, at University United Methodist Church on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.
