John K. Conlon, 73, of Chapel Hill, died at home with his family on July 13, 2025, from cancer.
He was born on March 13, 1952, to James and Mary (Ryan) in New York City and brought up in the Manhattanville section of the city. He was an alumnus of Power Memorial High School where he ran Cross Country and Track.
John attended the University of Notre Dame and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1974.
He married Kathleen (O’Sullivan) in 1975, and they had three children, Robert, Donna, and Michael. He raised his family on Long Island, New York and in Wheaton, Illinois before moving to North Carolina.
John was a faithful and loving husband, a steadfast, attentive, and caring father, and an affectionate and devoted grandfather. His successful business career in consulting and strategic alliances allowed him to take exceptional care of his family.
He gave his time and talents to others through contributions to voluntary organizations throughout his life. In college and as a young man he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was Grand Knight of his college council. When his children were young, he ran the parish Boy Scout troop and the CYO track program. As a retiree, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Cora Food Pantry. He was also a committed platelet donor for the Red Cross.
He was an avid golfer and runner. He remained a loyal fan of his beloved Fighting Irish all his life. He was an enthusiastic traveler, an excellent cook, and an accomplished handyman.
John was a devout Catholic from the time he served as an altar boy in Corpus Christi Parish in NYC until his death. He died with the sacraments in hope of eternal life and with faith in his Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ.
John is survived by his wife Kathleen, his children Robert, Donna and Michael, his grandsons Michael and Patrick, his brother Jim, his niece Jennifer, his nephew Timothy, his sister-in-law Mary, and his daughter-in-law Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary and his younger brother Michael.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 on July 30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Collingdale, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please pray the Rosary for the repose of John’s soul.
Interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA after the Mass.
