Jason Hale James was born on February 18, 1975, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Robert and Janice James. Jason passed on to the Lord on February 2, 2026, peacefully in his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at 50 years of age.Jason is survived by his parents, Robert and Janice; his younger brother, Jonathan James of New York, NY; his son, Jackson, and partner, Nicole Fortner; his daughter, Peyton Alexis James of Chapel Hill; his life partner of 14 years, Amy Neyer; and bonus children, Ainsley and Noah Overstreet. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins in Nashville, TN; Kansas City, KS; Vicksburg, MS; San Antonio, TX; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; and Carlsbad, CA.Jason attended the Bethel Park School District in Pennsylvania from kindergarten through high school graduation in 1993. During his thirteen years in Bethel Park, he excelled in numerous sports, from tee ball to soccer to swimming, where he developed lasting friendships and lifetime skills through the consistent effort required in team-building sports. The Bethel Park High School Swimming team, coached by Pat Campbell and Paul Gamelier, focused on winning state championships, during which Jason set numerous state records, leading to his early scholarship acceptance at the University of North Carolina. At UNC, he continued to excel, earning notable accomplishments in the sport and enjoying the swimming fraternity, creating lifelong friends.Although swimming was highly time-intensive, Jason's major in industrial relations at UNC led to several post-college jobs, culminating in the opening of his own business, Accurate Concrete Construction, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 2010. For twenty-six years, Jason and his partner, Esau Ramos, have provided quality work with only six loyal employees. Being fluent in Spanish has been an asset for Jason in his business. Family and setting goals have always been priorities for Jason, and encouraging a talented daughter to do the same in swimming has been a focal point in his life. From driving her to practices twice a day to attending weekend meets at home and away, Jason has taught commitment through dedication. Sneaking in coaching tips was a natural asset he shared with his record-holding daughter. Throughout his short life, he demonstrated that consistent effort can yield positive results. Many family and friends will miss Jason.
