James Edward "Jim" Seay III

James Edward “Jim” Seay III, 87, passed away on July 10, 2026, at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Born on January 1, 1939, in Batesville, Mississippi, Jim was the son of the late James Edward Seay, Jr. and Lucie Page Seay. He retired from the University of North Carolina, where he served as a professor of creative writing.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Field Seay of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and his sister, Donna Seay Magee of Batesville, Mississippi.

He is survived by his son, Turlington Page Seay; his granddaughter, Lucy Seay; his grandson, Spencer Seay, all of Nashville, Tennessee; and his sister, Jackie Seay Sergi of Batesville, Mississippi.
