Harry Robin Roegner

Mr. Harry Robin Roegner, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, at The Laurels of Chatham, surrounded by his loving family.

Harry was born on May 10, 1935, in Morris, New Jersey, to the late Gustave Charles Roegner and the late Louis Vreeland Van Duyane Roegner.

He was a graduate of Princeton University and the University of California. Harry enjoyed a distinguished career, working for TRW from 1984 to 1992 and serving as an adviser to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Harry was a lifelong student and passionate collector of butterflies. He authored several books, including Butterfly Trails (2003), Adventures with Butterflies (2005), Gerrit Minnie of Habcaw (2007), and A Time to Remember: Six Decades of Butterfly Collecting. His dedication to the study and preservation of butterflies led him to build one of the largest butterfly collections in the United States, which he generously donated to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

Harry will be remembered for his intellect, curiosity, dedication to his passions, and the lasting contributions he made to the world of butterfly collecting and natural history.

He is survived by his beloved spouse, Anneliese Bendt Roegner; his son, Eric Roegner, and daughter-in-law, Kristina Roegner; his daughter, Katherine Roegner Willems; and his grandchildren, Katherine Roegner, Kaitlyn Roegner Banko, and Kristine Roegner.

Harry's family is grateful for the love and care he received from those who surrounded him during his final days and will cherish the many memories they shared with him.
