Efland - George C. Boyd, 90, died Thursday, July 14, 2016. he was born in Alamance County and attended Orange County Schools. He was employed at Efland Hosiery Mill and retired from Alert Cable. He was married for over 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded and was a POW. He served as Scout Master of Troup 450 and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and was also instrumental in establishing the Orange County Rescue Squad. Surviving are three sons: Kenneth Boyd (Gail), Tommy Boyd, and Stephen Boyd (Katherine Hare); six grandchildren: Niki B. Quady, Jenny B. Rodgers (Ryan), Michael Boyd (Kelly), Wendy Wilkerson (Brock), Renee Hay (Mike) and Patrick Boyd; and 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys, his parents, Fannie and Grover Boyd, and three sisters: Ruth Squires, Desimae Smith, and Frances Sawyer. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday in Efland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lori Higgins. Burial will be in the church cemetery (Brookhollow Road).
