Gabriel Dean Garzoni

March 2, 2015 — April 27, 2026

Chapel Hill

Gabriel Dean Garzoni was born on March 2, 2015 and at the young age of 11, went to his heavenly home on April 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Gabriel was the beloved only child of Jimmy Garzoni and Amber Smith, who were his constant source of comfort, strength, and unwavering love throughout his life, but especially during his battle with leukemia. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made on everyone who knew him will last forever.

Gabriel was truly one of a kind. He was born a comedian and kept everyone around him laughing from the very beginning. His joy was contagious, and his vibrant personality lit up every room he entered.

He loved koalas, Pokémon, Minecraft, and spending time outdoors—especially hiking and exploring. He had a special love for board games, Legos, and watching anime and playing video games with his parents. Gabriel also cherished the simple, meaningful moments, like eating Daddo’s grilled cheeses and baking with Mommy. In addition to all of his interests, Gabriel loved his stuffies, especially his stuffie “family” - brother Blue Puppy, wife Hazel, son Dop, and daughters Ruby and Cinnamon.

Gabriel had an incredibly strategic mind and a natural ability to figure things out in a flash. Watching his eyes light up as he effortlessly created master plans to conquer whatever was in front of him was something truly special. His determination, creativity, and curiosity were just a few of the many qualities that made him so unforgettable.

He will be remembered for his courage, his humor, his brilliant mind, and the immense love he gave so freely. Gabriel’s life is a testament to strength, faith, and the power of love, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Gabriel is lovingly survived by his parents, Jimmy Garzoni and Amber Smith. He is also survived by his beloved fur sisters, Indiana and River, and his cat, Moxie, who brought him so much comfort and joy. He was the cherished grandson of Jim and Lisa Garzoni and Terry and Cynthia Smith.

He is also survived by his Aunt Shannon Mackay and Uncle James; his TiTi, Amanda Rutemiller; and his uncle, Eli Rutemiller. He shared a special bond with his nanny Mrs. Debbie Winkler and her husband, Mr.Roger Winkler, who were like a third set of grandparents to him.

Gabriel will be deeply missed by his cousins — Levi, Luke, Jace, and Nathan Mackay, as well as Kassidy Whitley, Salem Jackimowicz, and Cambrie Rutemiller.

He was surrounded by a large extended family who loved him beyond measure and will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, Jimmy and Amber kindly request that donations be made in Gabriel’s honor to Victory Junction or UNC Children’s Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later time.
