It is with deep sadness that the family of Frances Griffin announces her passing on May 29, 2026 at the age of 100, in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Frances was born on August 9, 1925 to Eva Estelle Hall Haley and Henry Richard Marvin Haley. She grew up on The Haley Farm, an only child living with her mother, father and grandmother. Frances was born and died on The Haley Farm. She attended Efland School and graduated in 1942..After graduation she went on to attend Elon College. As a young adult she worked at Fairchild Aviation in Burlington during WWII and worked in payroll at the Bellvue Mill in Hillsborough.Frances married Wade Edward Griffin on June 16th of 1945. She soon became the postmaster at University Station in Orange County. There they welcomed two of their four children, Edward Haley Griffin and Michael King Griffin in 1946 and 1947 respectively. They moved to Raleigh in 1949 where they welcomed two more children, James William Griffin in 1950 and Katherine Elizabeth Griffin in 1954.
They moved back to The Haley Farm in 1977. There they built a home and local business, Griffin’s General Services, that has served the community for over 40 years. Frances finally retired after Wade’s death in 2015. They were active members of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
She was known for her baking, reading and quilting. Her cakes and cookies raised thousands of dollars over the years to support her church and community and her angel biscuits by most accounts were the cure for nearly anything that ailed you. She kept her table set for whoever showed up - family, neighbor or stranger - because she understood that sharing a meal was never just about the bread. Many nights she read until the early morning hours, long after the house had gone quiet. She moved through her long life with needle, page and flour-dusted hands - extending patience, attention and love to all in her presence.
Frances was welcomed to heaven by all who left before her, especially her beloved husband Wade and loving mother and father.
Frances is survived by her four children and their families as follows:
