Elizabeth Ann Tilley Hicks

Elizabeth Ann “Ann” Tilley Hicks, 84, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025.

Born in Rowan County to James Richard Tilley and Lorene C Tilley, Ann lived a life marked by kindness, joy, and deep connections with those around her. She dedicated many years of her career to the Duke Eye Center, where she served as a Supervisor until her retirement. Her work ethic, warm personality, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on her colleagues and all who knew her.

A faithful member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Durham, Ann found joy in her faith community and in serving others. She was known for her kind heart, love of laughter, and gift for conversation — she could brighten any room simply by being in it.

Ann’s greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her daughter Sharron Finch and husband Mike, her son Bryant Hicks, grandchildren Stephanie Crawley and husband Bill, Michael Finch and wife Sara, and Rickey Hicks, and great-grandchildren Kyndall and Kathryn. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery, 6700 Mount Hermon Church Road, Durham, NC. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization close to Ann’s heart.
