Elaine Crews Sizemore passed away on Monday, December 15 at the age of 91. She was born to parents Grover and Daisy Crews on March 7, 1934. From her early years, Elaine was a talented musician in Kernersville who was able to play the trumpet, piano and church organ. She became the organist at Moravia Moravian Church as a young teenager, and she played there for over 70 years.
In 1951, she met her future husband Tom (State Highway Patrolman) at the 4th of July parade in Kernersville. They were married the following year in 1952, and their marriage lasted for 73 years. They had two daughters, Susan and Stephanie.
As a young wife, Elaine worked at the local dress store, “The Ladies House”. In 1973 the family moved to Efland in Orange County. Initially, Elaine worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance. Later, she took a receptionist position with a local doctor. A new building was constructed to house the Orange Family Medical Group. She became a receptionist there where she worked for many years, until she retired in 1995 when her grandson Justin (David and Stephanie’s son) was born.
Recent years have brought some health issues that made it difficult for Elaine to move around. She will surely be missed by all who knew her.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents Grover and Daisy Crews, as well as her brother Arthur Crews. Survivors include her husband Tom Sizemore, daughter Susan Whitfield (widow, Franklin “Dee’ Whitfield), daughter Stephanie Snotherly (husband David and son Justin) and her brother Tommy Crews (Linda).
