Edward Michael Galligan, PhD, 82, retired Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, died Saturday, January 7, 2018 at his home. Professor Galligan was born on June 9, 1935 in New York City to the late Edward and Helen Delaney Galligan. He joined the Philosophy Department in 1964, starting a tenure that lasted over 40 years. He loved teaching, especially Greek philosophy. He was very passionate about music and literature and animals. Once his granddaughters were born, they became one of his proudest joys – being able to visit, and share pictures and videos with them. Professor Galligan is survived by his wife, Katalin Cserepfalvi Galligan of the home; son, Brian Avery Galligan, and his wife, Katie, of Wilmington; granddaughters, Avery Elena and Finley Brie Galligan; and his brother, Patrick Galligan, and his wife, Kathy of Ft. Myers, Florida. No services are planned at this time. Memorials in Ed’s name may be directed to Toys of Hope, Inc., P. O.
