With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Eddie Haley on October 15, 2026. Eddie was a beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was defined by gentleness, kindness, and deep devotion to those he loved.
Born on August 6, 1953, in Mebane, North Carolina, Eddie was the son of the late Mary Louise Cheek Haley and was raised with love by his wonderful grandparents, Cliff and Carrie Cheek.
He found genuine joy in life's simple pleasures, whether taking a peaceful stroll through the park with his faithful dog, Jelly, or tending to the extensive plant collection he cultivated over the years. Eddie’s love for animals was boundless, and he and his wife, Mary, provided a warm, loving home to countless pets throughout his life.
In retirement, Eddie discovered a passion for woodworking, a craft he honed alongside his close friend, Rusty Morton. His custom furniture pieces became cherished family heirlooms, and his meticulously crafted cutting boards were a favorite at local markets and festivals. Through his craft, Eddie found not only personal fulfillment, but also a meaningful way to connect with his community.
Eddie leaves behind his devoted wife of 43 years, Mary; his stepson, Rick Schuhler, and his wife, Rhonda, of Youngsville; and his cherished granddaughters, Sarah Kate and Zoe. He is also survived by his siblings, Phyllis Haley Rogers of Burlington, Marylou Haley Branch (Mike) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Chris Galiano (Deb) of San Diego, CA. His memory will also be cherished by his aunt, Jackie Cheek Fulp; his nieces, Tracy Haley Sykes (Charlie), Terri Haley McCormack (Todd), and Crystal Haley; and many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.
Eddie's warmth, generous heart, and gentle spirit touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eddie's memory to the Alamance County Pet Rescue or a charity of your choice, continuing his lifelong legacy of compassion for animals.
