David Schultz

July 12, 2001 — May 15, 2026

Chapel Hill

David Schultz, 24, of Chapel Hill, NC passed away on May 15, 2026. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. David was born in Madison, Wisconsin before moving to Chapel Hill, North Carolina with his family in 2005.

David was a life-long animal lover, adopting a vegetarian lifestyle by 9 years of age. He was a voracious reader and never stopped learning. He especially loved learning about places and people around the world.

David traveled the world with his family. Japan was one of his favorite places, where David was deeply drawn to the extreme politeness and quietness of the culture. He was also fond of many places in South America, visiting family in Columbia and exploring other countries like Perú.

David was a sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the professional teams out of Wisconsin, UNC, and watching soccer from around the world. Since soccer is an important component of the culture in many countries, it matched his two passions of sports and culture. Soccer and video games also provided connection with his cousins. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 2025 and had the whole world in front of him.

David is survived by his parents Bradley and Aura Schultz of Chapel Hill, NC; his brother Peter (Janice) Schultz of Raleigh, NC; his nephews, Palmer and Bennett Schultz; his abuela, Martha López of Cali, Colombia; his aunts, Alicia Caipe López and Berta Caipe López; his uncle Luis Moran Portocarrero; cousins Miguel Ángel Garcia Caipe, Luis Moran Caipe, Kevin Garcia Caipe, Maira Moran Caipe, and Leydi Caipe López; and many other beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester Schultz, Jr and Carolyn Adams and his abuelo, Miguel Ángel Caipe.

Donations in David’s memory may be made to Donate-Chapel Hill Friends Meeting (attention: Care and Counsel Fund if the option exists in the manner chosen) or your local SPCA.
