Calvin
Coarse
Sep 20, 2012 — Aug 17, 2026
Calvin Marshall Coarse 2012-2026
Calvin Coarse, 13, of Pittsboro, North Carolina passed away on August 17, 2026,
surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He faced
every aspect of his cancer journey with unmatched bravery, strength, and resilience.
Calvin was born September 20, 2012 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He was a
charismatic and energetic child. Whenever he entered a room his presence and energy filled
every corner. He loved learning and being around other people, one of the most challenging
aspects of his illness was not being able to attend school in person. He was able to easily make
friends and his teachers loved how curious, kind and smart he was.
Calvin had many different interests and loved sharing them with the people around him.
He loved playing video games, building Lego, collecting Pokemon cards, swimming, and weird
animals. He enjoyed sharing his interests with others, he could spend hours explaining his
elaborate Minecraft builds to anyone who would listen to him. One of his favorite things to do
was play Fortnite with his brother and friends. Calvin had a wonderful sense of humor and loved
pulling silly pranks that brought laughter to everyone around him.
To say Calvin will be deeply missed is an understatement. He touched the lives of
everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his parents Megan and Jason
Coarse, his brother and best friend Shep Coarse, his grandparents Chris Coarse, Tom Boyd,
and Darlene Boyd, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his
grandfather Tony Coarse. A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held on September 20, 2026 from
3:00-5:00 at the Jordan Lake Educational State Forest, 2832 Big Woods Road, Chapel Hill,
North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a charity contribution in Calvin’s
honor to the UNC Children’s Hospital School or purchasing gifts from the UNC Child Life
Amazon wish list. Both of these programs provide incredible support to other medically complex
children who require hospital stays.
