Brenda Griffin Ray

Brenda Griffin Ray, beloved and devout wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away on December 1, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. Brenda was born on November 7, 1945. She is preceded in death by her parents Doc Ello (“Pete”) Griffin and Mable Dodson Griffin; sisters Carol Jean McDade and Gail Jones. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Gene Wayne Ray, son Todd Williams (Rhonda), and daughter Tanya Overstreet (Stacy); grandchildren, Josh Williams, McCray Williams, Justin Forrester, Madilyn Overstreet, Emily Forrester, and Josh Forrester; great grandchildren Alexandra, Noah, and Salem; sister, Jackie Roberts (Dickey).

Native to Hillsborough, NC, and long-time business owner, Brenda was best known for her big heart and strong will. If she put her mind to it, she got it done. Brenda never met a stranger and made friends easily wherever she went. Brenda loved her family and caring for others. She enjoyed being at her little farm with a variety of animals, her greenhouse, and multiple flower gardens. She was a mom that was always there. She coached little league and loved cheering on her kids and grandchildren at their sporting events and other activities. Brenda loved UNC basketball, and whether cheering for her family or her team, she was their loudest fan. Now with her savior, her cheers will continue forever. 

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 11:00am immediately followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm, both at Walkers Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsborough. The burial will follow at Union Grove United Methodist Church.
