Bonnie Powell Stephens, 63, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2025, in Mebane, North Carolina. Born on August 3, 1962, in Durham, North Carolina Bonnie brought warmth and light into the world from the very beginning.
She was the daughter of Ray Powell and the late Sandra Paschall. Bonnie grew up in Durham alongside her siblings, Dennis Powell and Dianne Powell. She graduated from Jordan High School and later earned a business degree from Mount Olive College demonstrating her dedication to learning and personal growth. Bonnie was known for her loving spirit and unwavering positivity. Her smile could light up any room, and she had a remarkable ability to see the best in everyone she met. Those who knew her were drawn to her loving, caring and positive nature. Her passions were many. She loved to travel and explore new places, often finding joy in the simple beauty of nature through bird watching. Music was another source of happiness for Bonnie. She found peace playing the guitar. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family. She especially adored her granddaughter Birdie, with whom she shared countless treasured moments. Bonnie’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She found deep fulfillment in serving her Lord and lived each day with grace and compassion.
She is survived by her loving husband Jeff Stephens, daughters, Ashley Blake (Travis), Melissa Stephens, her father Ray Powell, her stepmother, Elaine, her brother Dennis Powell, sister, Diane Powell and her beloved granddaughter Birdie.
A Memorial service honoring Bonnie’s life will be held on Thursday, August 21,2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Walker’s Funeral Home in Mebane. A visitation held prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation for the loving care given to Bonnie by Frances Bryant, Veronica Clark and Carla Alston and all her care team from Authora Care Hospice in Burlington, NC. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD).
