Beverly Mae Leffell Brumbaugh

July 24, 1937 — July 3, 2025

Beverly Mae Leffell Brumbaugh, 87, passed peacefully away on July 3, 2025. Beverly was born on July 24, 1937, to Essie Mae (nee Burnett) and Thomas Leffell, and grew up in Vinton, VA. After graduating from Radford College (now Radford University), she moved to the Washington, DC, area to work as an elementary school teacher. Though they grew up only miles apart near Roanoke, VA, she and David met in Washington, DC, fell in love, got married, and raised two wonderful boys. Later, she earned her MSW from the University of Maryland and worked for Montgomery County, MD, senior services helping low-income seniors obtain much-needed services and support.

Beverly was an avid and talented gardener, creating beauty from living plants wherever she lived. One of her favorite tasks was to trim her shrubs, and all three of her boys would lovingly kid her about repeatedly cutting the extension cords of her electric trimmer while making sure her well-manicured gardens were pristine. She loved to paint, read, entertain, study the Bible, and travel the world with David. She and David were active participants in the Methodist Church, volunteering on many mission trips and committees.

Remaining are her two sons, Dave (Anne) and Michael Brumbaugh (Andy Shaheen); granddaughter Jocelyn Brumbaugh (Austin Archer); sister Judy Hutts; nephew Chris Hutts; and niece Lynette Jobe.

Inseparable in life, she will rejoin her beloved husband and best friend, David Brumbaugh, in Heaven. She is further preceded in death by her parents, Essie Mae (Burnett) and Thomas Leffell; brother, Wilmore “Sonny” Leffell, Sr.; nephews Wilmore “Butch” Leffell, Jr., and Jeffrey Leffell; and niece Kim Hutts.

A memorial service will be held at the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 1500 North Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 1:30 pm. A reception will follow.

Beverly and David were both committed to helping those less fortunate than themselves. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church Community Assistance Fund https://www.mountolivetumc.com/giving which oversees efforts to serve a growing population of low-income residents in the greater Arlington community.
