September 16, 1941 — September 6, 2021

Betty was born September 16, 1941 in Tupelo, Mississippi to the late Earle and Louise May Baughman. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, after which she worked alongside pediatric psychiatrists, helping assess children with various disabilities. Her numerous hobbies and talents included sewing, baking, piano, bridge, and church choir. Her children remember her constant singing around the house, her lemon meringue pie, and many homemade Easter Sunday outfits. Betty made friends everywhere she went, and leaves behind countless people who adored her. Betty is survived by her son Joseph Suggs Jr. and grandson Jordan of Greensboro; daughter Louise Suggs, son-in-law Ted To, and grandsons Henry and Franklin of Baltimore, Maryland; and her beloved brother, Dr. Earle Baughman Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia. She was preceded in death by first husband Dr. Joseph Suggs Sr. and second husband Alfred Carr. An outdoor celebration of life for Betty will be led by Dr. Matt Riggsbee at First Baptist Church of Hillsborough on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Orange Congregations in Mission (OCIM) in Hillsborough. Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough is assisting the family.
