Betsy Ann Kelly

Betsy Ann Kelly 79, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully while in hospice care on April 11, 2026. Betsy was born in Baldwinville NY on January 23, 1947 and was the daughter of George Morrill and Mirium Dossert.

Betsy grew up in northern New York state with her two sisters and three brothers. While attending high school in upstate New York she met her future husband John Kelly and was married to him for 38 years until his passing in 2007. She moved with her husband shortly after getting married to Long Island New York. She later moved her family back to upstate New York and then finally settled with her family to Connecticut where she had a long career in banking. She received a degree in retail bank management from the University of Virginia and was certified with the American Institute of Banking. While in Connecticut Betsy was involved in the Chamber of Commerce and Canton Historical Society. She eventually retired as a branch manager in Collinsville, Connecticut and then moved to Durham, North Carolina shortly after retiring.

After retiring she enjoyed volunteering at several organizations, including Sarah P. Duke Gardens, the American Red Cross and as a teacher assistant. Betsy also worked part time for an in home senior care organization while living in Durham. While working there she enjoyed giving assistance and companionship to people in need of support and care. She had a love for gardening and was enrolled in the master gardener program classes at Sarah P. Duke Gardens. She was active in her church and would help and assist members of the church in need frequently. She developed a passion for ancestry research at her church and assisted others at the church's family research center. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughter and enjoyed taking her shopping.

She was caring, loving, and kind‑hearted, always giving more of herself than she ever asked in return. Her generosity touched lives in ways that will never be forgotten. She expressed this generosity to everyone around her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Betsy is survived by son; Larry Kelly, daughter in law; Jennifer Kelly, granddaughter; Emily Kelly, brothers; John Morrill, Don Morrill and Jim Morrill, sister in law; Theresa Walla Kelly and many nieces and nephews.

Betsy is preceded in death by her husband; John Kelly, son; Kevin Kelly and sisters; Andrea Morrill and Barbara Morrill.

There will be a service held on Saturday April 25th at 12PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1050 M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Betsy will be laid to rest in Goshen, Connecticut alongside her late husband.

In lieu of flowers, Betsy can be honored by donating to the American Cancer Society and or American Heart Association.
