Barbara Jo Cappadona Hann

d. Jul 1, 2026

Barbara Jo Cappadona Hann, aged 81 years, passed away in Smithfield, North Carolina on the 1st of July 2026. Barbara was born in the U.S. Naval Hospital at Quantico, Virginia in January 1945. Barbara traveled with her parents Ruth Kinkead Cappadona (1922-1995) and Samuel Roy Cappadona (1920-2002) as they were transferred over the next 15 years from Marine Corps Air Station to Marine Corps Air Station. During those years, she was a Brownie Scout and a Girl Scout, enjoyed camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains with her family and traveling across the country several times with historical and scenic tourism. As she grew taller her red hair earned her the nickname ‘Woody’ from the cartoon character ‘Woody Woodpecker’.

When the family moved to a small farm in Breezewood, Pennsylvania in 1960, Barbara joined the Senior High Chorus at Everett Southern Joint High School where she sang soprano. In the summer of 1960, her father hired a local painter to paint the farmhouse. The painter brought his 22-year-old son, Bernard ‘Butch’ Hann as his assistant. Barbara and Butch quickly formed a bond that would last a lifetime.

Barbara and Butch were married in March 1962 when Butch returned from Army bootcamp at Fort Dix, New Jersey. They honeymooned on the trip to his new Army post, Fort Hood, Texas. In February 1963, Barbara gave birth to their only child, Lorraine Robin ‘Lori’ Hann.

After Butch returned from Vietnam in 1966, they moved to Perry, Ohio where Barbara’s parents were living. Over the next 20 years they would move to Florida, then Breezewood, Pennsylvania. They built a small house in Ray’s Cove, not far up the valley from Breezewood. During their last few years in Pennsylvania, her daughter Lori married and Barbara was soon a grandmother.

In 1993 Barbara earned her college degree in Computer Science. Not long afterward, she and Butch sold their house in Ray’s Cove and moved to Efland, North Carolina. Her daughter and grandchildren moved at about the same time.

Barbara and Butch spent a lifetime together through good times and some tough times. Their love never wavered. She was a life-long Christian and a loyal church member. She would read the scriptures every morning, usually on the front porch or in the shade of a gazebo. Her forte was hosting large family gatherings on holidays.

Barbara passed peacefully with her daughter Lorraine Hann Glaum at her side.

Barbara is survived by her siblings; Roy Robert Cappadona (Kathleen Cook), Carolyn Ruth Cappadona Donivan (Harry), Charles Martin Cappadona (Regina Brittain), her daughter Lorraine Robin Hann Glaum (Charles), 2 grandsons (Michael & David Glaum) and 2 granddaughters (Victoria Blanchfield Clark and Danielle Nichole Blanchfield Clarida (Justin), and 7 great grandchildren.

Butch Hann passed away in 2021 and is buried at the Quantico National Military Cemetery in Virginia. Barbara will rest with Butch.
