Barbara Rose Cheek Eberhart passed peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Rex Rehabilitation in Apex, North Carolina, with her loving family by her side.
Barbara was born on December 4, 1937, to the late Thomas Melvin Cheek and Pearl Duke Cheek. She was a graduate of Pittsboro High School and Southeast Beauty School in Charlotte. Barbara went on to work as a beautician alongside her sister, Lois, for several years. Her love of beauty and fashion was a special part of who she was. She always enjoyed keeping up with the latest hairstyles and fashions and had a wonderful eye for style.
Barbara was married to the love of her life, Jimmie Eberhart, and they shared 67 years of marriage together. She loved the Lord and her family dearly, and her faith was an important part of her life. Barbara also loved to sing in the choir and could often be found sitting proudly in the front row, right in the middle of the choir. Her love of music and singing brought her great joy.
Barbara enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved to read and looked forward to receiving catalogs in the mail, taking time to look through the latest offerings. She enjoyed staying current with styles and fashion and had a warm and loving personality that made her special to those around her.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She treasured the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Jimmie Eberhart; her daughter, Jamye Smith (Frank); her son, Robert Eberhart (Michelle); and her grandchildren, Wyatt Eberhart and Emily Jordan (Bradley). She is also survived by her sister, Lois Hoening, and her brother, Ben Cheek (Ellen). Barbara was the youngest of twelve children.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers, William Cheek and his wife, Helen; Melvin Cheek and his wife, Susie; Dennis Cheek and his wife, Ann; her sister, Inez Sparrow and her husband, Waldo; and her brother-in-law, Joe Hoening.
Barbara leaves behind many nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will cherish the memories they made with her. She will be remembered for her love of the Lord, her devotion to her family, her beautiful singing voice, her sense of style, and the warmth and love she shared with everyone around her.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Walker's Funeral Home Chapel in Chapel Hill, with the family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Apex Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Barbara was especially supportive of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the American Red Cross, and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Barbara lived a life filled with faith, family, love, and music. She will be deeply missed, but the love she gave and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
