Aranka was born March 14, 1925 in Budapest Hungary. She survived World War II, three husbands, two of her three children, and numerous pets. She immigrated to Canada during the Hungarian Revolution. She went to cosmetology school and worked in the business until her last daughter Monica was born. The family moved to North Carolina in 1979 where she had a lifelong involvement with the Hungarian Club, gardening, and entertaining friends. She was also a devoted bridge player until macular degeneration dimmed her vision.She loved telling jokes, especially one about the elephant and the peanut. She spent the last 4 1/2 years of her life at the Dubose Center, telling jokes, almost till the end.
