She was born in Pinehurst, NC, on December 30, 1953, to Dudley Comer and Emily Williams Comer, and lived in Rockingham, NC, all her life until moving to Fearrington in 2020. She was a graduate of Rockingham High School and Appalachian State University. Anne retired after 33 years of service at Richmond Community College, where she was the Public Information Officer. At RCC, she promoted numerous programs and saw student enrollment rise to an all-time high. While serving on the Richmond County Arts Council, Anne worked to bring the North Carolina Symphony back for a school concert after a long hiatus. She also served on the Richmond County Board of Education for 12 years and served as its chairperson for much of that time. Her tenure on the BOE was marked by constructing new schools and remodeling older ones, and she successfully advocated for bringing soccer programs into junior high schools. Anne was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Rockingham, and later a member of Zion United Methodist Church. Throughout her life she was an avid gardener and enjoyed all aspects of nature. Recently, she had been a volunteer at the North Carolina Botanical Garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Murphy Comer and sister-in-law Mary Welch Comer. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Fred Morris, and their children, Montgomery Morris and Lindsay Morris. She is also survived by her brother Marcus Comer (Joan), and loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends and new friends, too.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
